ABOUT THE ARTIST

Michael Mills began his life as an artist in 2009. By then he had accumulated more than two decades of experience in areas related to the visual arts: editor at movie and video magazines; film critic at The Palm Beach Post (7.5 years); host of a five-year series of 80 films; communications manager and senior editor at the Museum of Art / Fort Lauderdale (2.5 years); art critic at New Times Broward / Palm Beach (15 years); and freelance writer covering arts and entertainment for multiple magazines throughout South Florida and elsewhere.

His first artworks were analog photos made with an old Canon 35mm camera. Shortly before the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, he started a daily drawing practice using an intentionally limited palette of metallic inks and gels on black paper. Since then, he has expanded with explorations of digital photography and, more recently, collages and works in mixed media.

His art has been featured in nearly 200 exhibitions, including solo shows at the Coral Springs Museum of Art, Broward Art Guild Gallery, and Anne Kolb Nature Center. Among his more than two dozen recognitions are Best Photograph in ArtExplosion 2011 and three Best in Show awards, including one from a national juried biennial through the Gainesville Fine Arts Association. His works are in more than 40 private collections.

He lives and works in Wilton Manors, Florida.
